CLAIM: Hamas burned or beheaded 40 babies on October 7th, 2023.

On October 10th, 2023, the Israeli state's official X/Twitter account declared that "40 babies [were] murdered" at kibbutz Kfar Aza. The devastating claim quickly spread around the globe. But it was later confirmed that, according to Israeli’s own social security agency, of the 46 civilians killed in Kfar Aza, the youngest was 14 years old—no babies were killed at kibbutz Kfar Aza. Furthermore, the final death registry for October 7th 2023 for all of Israel only lists two children under a year old that were killed that day, neither of whom were beheaded.
French newspaper Le Monde reached out to the Israeli government press office, who indeed confirmed that “there were never 40 decapitated babies. Not in Kfar Aza nor in any other kibbutz”.
“Can it be compared to the Kuwait incubator affair, a fabricated tale of kidnapped and massacred babies that was partly used to justify the first Gulf War?”, contemplated the French journalists.
By contrast, as of Sept 2024, 41,226 Palestinians have been killed in the war, including 11,355 named children, and 710 named children under 1 year old (most of whom were born and then killed during the war).
