In early October 2023, IDF spokesperson rear admiral Daniel Hagari admitted that “thousands of tonnes of munitions” had already been dropped on the Gaza strip, and that “right now we’re focused on what causes maximum damage”.
As of September 2024, the following UNOSAT map of extensive damage across nearly the entire Gaza Strip more closely resembles “carpet-bombing” than “surgical strikes”.
Among other civilian infrastructure, 92% of civilian homes have been damaged or destroyed.
