CLAIM: Upon disengaging from Gaza in 2005, Israel left behind solar panels for Gaza to produce its own electricity, which the Gazans then destroyed.

Despite extensive research for articles on Hamas or Palestinians destroying solar panels, no evidence was found to support this claim.
Instead, the evidence described a variety of projects to install solar panels on homes, hospitals, and in other locations in Gaza and the West Bank.
Evidence was also found of Israel preventing the entry of solar panels, confiscating them, or destroying them:
- Israel destroyed solar panels (and mobile classrooms) in the West Bank in 2017
- Israel confiscated solar panels in 2021
- “Israel has done everything it its power to keep Gaza in a crisis mode, from denying the strip solar panels so that they may generate their own electricity to blocking Gaza exports,” as reported by the Economist in 2013
One should ask themselves: why would Gazans—who experience frequent electrical blackouts—destroy solar panels they can clearly use for their own benefit?
There is no evidence that Gazans destroyed solar panels left behind by Israel in 2005.
