Israel-Palestine Mega Fact Check!

CLAIM: The United Nations is biased toward Palestinians since it grants their descendants refugee status while denying it to descendants of Jews that fled Nazi Europe.

RATING: False

The United Nations states that descendants of all refugees, regardless of where they fled from, continue to be considered refugees. But the key part is this: a person ceases to be a refugee when they accept the nationality of a new country (like Israel), or returns to the country they fled from (like in Europe), or the conditions causing them to flee have ceased to exist (e.g. the end of the Holocaust). For many Palestinians kicked out by Israel in 1948 and 1967, none of these conditions apply. Therefore they and their descendants continue to be classified as refugees.

For details, see p.23 of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’ Handbook And Guidelines On Procedures And Criteria For Determining Refugee Status (2011).

One reply on “Israel-Palestine Mega Fact Check!”

Keep trying to invent history. The palis didn’t exist until the mid 1960s.
One other fun fact – every group, every political organization, and every government that has ever tried to destroy the Jews has been destroyed. Fun fact #2 Israel has never been stronger.
